Heat Exhaustion

As the Northern Hemisphere goes into its summertime vacation period, on of the key issues you need to be very careful of is the heat. Whilst for most of us the heat is a welcomed result from a cold winter, the heat can creep up on us and lead to unwanted emergencies such as heat exhaustion.

Commonly heat exhaustion is associated with people in the sporting arena, that is seeing runners fall over due to the heat or lost bushwalkers being found extremely dehydrated. These are extreme forms of heat exhaustion but it can also occur in the most unlikely of locations like in laundries, in kitchens or even in steam rooms.

Heat Exhaustion is extremely serious as it can lead to organ failure including the kidneys or repiratory distress.

Whenever you are working in hot locations ensure that you hydrate regularly with plain water.

I have put together a webpage that will explain the first aid for Heat Exhaustion. I also recommend that you undertake a full first aid training course so that you know how to deal with any first aid situation.
